Museum Africa set to open in 2012
CHICAGO—(SDA) Museum Africa, a 600,000 sq. ft., $50 million museum and library complex devoted to the study of ancient African civilizations, is set to open September 30, 2012, the museum's president announced today.
"It has been a struggle," said Earl Smith, president of Museum Africa. "But I can definitely see a light at the end of the tunnel." He was referring to the more than five years of planning, fundraising and effort that went into the project for it to reach this stage.
Designed to house what Smith calls "the largest, most comprehensive collection" of primary source documents of African scholars and ancient artifacts, the museum-library complex is expected to draw millions of tourists, researchers and others over the next few years, said Smith.
